In 1989 I was 28 years old and happily married.
My husband and I were living in our new home in New South Wales, Australia with our two beautiful, healthy, young children, Ben 23 months and Jack 6 months, when tragically the pain of grief pierced my heart.
Ben died within a few hours after ingesting a medication that he should not have been exposed to.
It was then I experienced the absolute lowest point in my life and wondered how I would ever recover.
A few weeks after Ben’s death, I was introduced to ‘journaling’ and little did I realize then that it would be an invaluable part of my path through grief and recovery.
It is for this reason that I decided to share my journal with people who are feeling the weight of grief in their life.
This website was created to bring hope and support to those who have lost loved ones. It contains:
-
My 'e-Journal', which will reveal to you that what you are feeling now is normal and in time will pass.
- A "Prayer Page" containing words of hope, peace and strength. Words that I know gave myself and others comfort
- The opportunity to read about 'Other Fallen Petals' from around the world.
I remain happily married to the same husband since 1984 (even though statistics are against this following the loss of a child) and have enjoyed being the parent of our 5 children. I have studied and become a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Child Health Nurse and today I am the Director of Settle Petal - Private Parenting and Child Health on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Settle Petal is a business that provides information to parents who have babies and children under 5 years old. It supports families in a variety of ways locally, interstate and internationally.
Settle Petal focuses on general growth and development issues, sleep and settling strategies and maternal wellbeing.
Visit http://www.settlepetal.com if you would like more information.
Over the years I have watched families grieve after miscarriages, stillbirths, neonatal deaths, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), illnesses and accidents; it is clear that parents are always at risk of losing a child.
My website is here to let you know that you are not alone and that with reassurance and support you will overcome, move on and live again with a new found depth to life.
Yours in hope
Jan
